In Other News

Though it may seem that we've spent the whole month of July running all over the state to various family gatherings, we have, in fact, done a few other things. Zac was given a cabbage plant on the last day of third grade which we promptly planted and pretty much forgot about.  But despite our indifference it insisted on growing into a fine young cabbage.  So we picked it and Zac helped me make a lovely Irish dinner of corned beef and cabbage and roasted potatoes.  He did a really great job. 

We have spent many, many afternoons at the Helper swimming pool. This year is the first time I have let Drake and Garrett go off the diving board. Garrett decided to do a front flip on only the second try and has been doing them ever since. Drake and Zac decided to try it too....but after landing badly once they decided it was not for them! Zac eventually did try it again and has now mastered it. Drake, so far, is content to just jump off feet first! Today Tyson decided to give them some diving lessons (just from the edge of the pool, not the diving board) and Drake picked up on that very quickly. Also, Lexi still has her talent of being able to walk on water!

Drake and Garrett also went to a science camp earlier in the month. They went three hours a day for a week and learned many different ways to blow stuff up. They also learned about famous scientists. On the first day they came home so excited to be able to tell their dad all about Albert Einstein. Drake said to me, in the cutest little voice "Do you think Dad has ever heard about Albert Einstein?" This week Lexi and Zac will have their turn going to science camp.  The theme of their camp is Crime and Spy science.  I think they will both really like it.

Lexi spent 5 afternoons attending a 4-H sewing class. She made this really amazing quilt all by herself. She really loved it! Sewing is kind of my nemesis, so I was very happy that someone else in town was willing to teach her some basic skills.

We are having a very fun, very full summer and loving every minute of it. I can't believe school starts in less than a month!
