In the Home Stretch!

It's that time of year again! We are so close to the end of the school year and life gets crazy busy! Last week we went to an awards banquet with Lexi where she was honored for her part in the middle school quiz bowl team. They had a really great season with one 1st place finish, two 2nd place and one 3rd place. Lexi was their manager, but she did usually get to play a few rounds each time as well. Lexi and her friends Mikey Bera and Torie Hammock also participated in the school Cupcake Wars. They came to our house to practice and once they were finished I thought my kitchen would never look the same again! There was cake batter and frosting EVERYWHERE! The cupcakes they made were BBQ grills. They had red and orange frosting for flames, grills made out of Wilson's melting candies and shiskabobs made out of fruit snacks on toothpicks. They didn't win but they did a great job and had lots of fun. Yesterday Lexi got to go to Lagoon with all the 8th graders who did well on their Sage testing. She got all 3's on hers (3's and 4's are awesome!)

Drake and Garrett have had lots of end of the year activities. They went on a field trip to the Bean Museum (about wildlife,) and to the Wave Pool. They also had a park day and these pictures are from Field Day. I went and ran a station for field day but didn't get any pictures of them at my station. I was too busy chasing beach balls that were getting blown away by the wind! Today they are both participating in the school Talent Show playing the piano. Both boys did fantastic on their Sage testing, getting 4's in all three areas (Science, Language Arts, Math) Then tomorrow they have an ice-cream party because they memorized all their multiplication facts. All these fun activities have been exhausting! In fact, after wave pool day Drake fell asleep on the bus and didn't realize until a stop too late. Luckily the bus driver goes back past our house so she dropped him off 15 minutes later! I had a talk with Garrett about how twins are supposed to help each other out and if his brother falls asleep on the bus it's his job to wake him up in time!

Zac has kept us busy with all his soccer practices and games. He is on a competitive team that played most Saturdays for the past couple of months, with all the games being held up north. So we've done a lot of travelling! He is one of the starting 11 so he goes to all the games, not just a few like a lot of the other players do. He plays defense, usually in the left back position. He would love to be a forward but he is really good at defense and they need him there. He has really learned how to position his body so that people can't get around him and he uses his size to his advantage. He's not afraid to get a few fouls....in fact I think it would be an exciting day for him if he got a yellow card! He also played on the Middle School League (pictures below) which was fun for him because he got to score a lot of goals and was kind of the big dog on that team. They won 2nd place in the final tournament. Zac also went to a band festival and a movie/wave pool day. And in other exciting news, Zac was tested for the gifted and talented program for next year and he made it in! I am so exciting for him to do that. They will be focusing a lot on Science and Art and I think he will love it. Zac got a 4 on his Science Sage test, a 3 in Language Arts (2 points below a four. Arrrggghhh!) and a 2 in math.

It has been a great school year but we are ready for SUMMER! Bring on the popsicles and pool days!
