Moments in May

Wow! June really snuck up on me.....like a NINJA! .....Yes, I do have 3 boys. Why do you ask?! So anyway, I guess I'd better catch up on all the fun things that happened in May.  It was a very busy month with all the soccer games, field trips, graduations, family visits, etc. etc. etc. 

We started off the month by celebrating Zac's 9th birthday.  We went with a Soccer theme so he got a soccer rebounder, a soccer ball, and agility cones. He also got a remote control helicopter from his uncle Shay, and magnets and games from Grandpa Bill and Grandma Susan.  The last picture of this post shows what Grandma Debbie and Grandpa Gerry gave him.

We also spent lots of time on the soccer field.  I was very impressed with how much improvement each boy made this season.  Zac and Drake both love to play defender and Garrett (surprise, surpise!) is all about making the goals.  He made 8 goals in the last game alone! Drake and Garrett were on the EUFM (Eastern Utah Family Medicine) team and Zac was on team Mexico.

The day of the last game they had a jamboree to celebrate the first season of the Price Youth Soccer Association. There was a dunk tank, which thankfully none of my kids wanted to try since it was pretty cold, a train to ride, bouncy houses, face painting and treats.

The end of the school year really gets crazy with programs and activities.  Lexi graduated from the DARE program (say no to drugs, bullying etc.)  She got back her score for the DWA (Direct Writing Assessment) which is the big writing test that all 5th graders have to take.  The highest score is a 30 and Lexi got a 29 which is phenomenal!  She also earned the Patriot Award.  It's an award that can be earned by 5th graders who complete 9 patriot themed challenges.  For example, memorizing all the names of the Presidents and learning the Pledge of Allegiance in sign language. She also got an award for reading the 2nd highest minutes this year (almost 13,000). She went on a field trip to Buckhorn Wash in the San Rafael Swell, had a park day with her class (in which the cops showed up because a teenager was seen walking by with a gun - he'd only been out hunting rabbits but they took all the necessary precautions just in case!) had Field Day, and went to the Wave Pool.

Drake and Garrett had a really fun Field Day.  They had relay races where they had to keep a ball between their heads and walk to the line and back, weave a hula hoop down a row of kids holding hands without letting go of hands, and filling up buckets of water with sponges from a different bucket of water, and several other games.They also had a water party day.  They got out of school a week earlier than the older kids and just had to go back for testing. 

They also had a park day at the Dino Mine park.  Drake wore a long sleeve shirt and it was a hot day so I borrowed some scissors and cut off his sleeves. Yep, I guess I am that embarrassing mom that I never wanted to be! But he was much more comfortable afterwards and that is what matters anyway!

Drake and Garrett graduated from Kindergarten.  They sang lots of fun songs they had learned throughout the year.  Garrett got to be the Alligator who "snaps those monkeys right out of that tree." He was very nervous about it and even cried himself to sleep one night because he thought people would laugh at him.  He did a good job though.  Drake held up a sign with a hotdog on it for a song about "five little hot dogs frying in a pan. The grease got hot and one went BAM!" When they said BAM he flipped his sign over to show a picture of an exploding hot dog.

Zac and Lexi both got to go on a field trip to the Wave Pool.  This is Zac and his good friend Ajay enjoying an icecream before jumping back in the pool.  It was a nice warm day for swimming unlike last year when it was freezing!  Zac also went on a field trip to a Planetarium, had a park day, field day, and an ice cream party where they got scoops of ice cream and toppings for each of the factors they passed off on multiplication.  Zac was one of the first in his class to pass off all 12 numbers.

Bill came up one day to help us fix a broken sprinkler line. It had broken underneath our driveway and we didn't want to have to tear up the cement. Luckily Tyson's brother, Shay, had found the break a few weeks earlier using his locating equipment (he has a business where he locates pipes for construction companies. It's nice to know people with skills!) It took most of the day but we did get the pipe fixed and all the sprinklers are back in working order. Tyson was VERY happy about that! Bill took us to Coldstone for some ice cream before he went home that night. We also spent time in Orem on Memorial weekend with Tyson's family but I don't have any pictures from our day there. We had a nice backyard lunch at Grandma Murphy's and went to put flowers on Tyson's Grandpa's grave.

My parents came up for a quick visit too.  We spent the evening talking, eating and enjoying some really yummy homemade strawberry ice cream that Garrett and Zac helped me make.  The next day we went to the park.  They brought Zac a pocket knife for his birthday.  He loves it and has been packing it around ever since. So far he has only cut himself once!  Getting a pocket knife from your grandpa seems like a rite of passage for a boy.  Hopefully he will be responsible enough to handle it.

Now we are moving on to a June filled with swimming, bowling (Kids Bowl Free), free lunch, parks, playing with friends, and going to the Heaton Basketball camp. We love summer.....and NINJAS!
