This year for Thanksgiving we were able to go to Orderville to visit my parents. My brothers James and Gerry were also there and my sisters Sara and Anna. We missed Heide (she lives in Florida), Dillon was trying to get ready to move to his new job in Nevada, and Jason had just had brain surgery and his wife had just had a baby. So I guess they all had pretty good excuses for not joining the party.
Lexi and Grandma got right to work Thursday morning getting the traditional paper plate turkey craft ready. My mom has done this craft every thanksgiving for a very long time!
The boys sat around in their pajamas playing battleship, Pop Up Pirate and watching Merlin on Netflix. All the kids loved playing with these little connectable plastic shapes. I wish I knew where to buy some of those, they were really cool. But apparently they are a Wendy's toy from a few years ago. Dang!
Tyson spent the weekend taking a TON of pictures, mostly of the basketball and volleyball games, playing on his Ipad and working out at the high school gym. He also got put in charge of carving the turkey.
The ladies got to work in the kitchen....but they took a break so they could look at pictures of our new nephew, Houston.
The kid table was pretty full this year. Another one of our family traditions is the re-using of the plastic turkey plates. My Grandpa Dill gave them to my mom probably 30 years ago and we still wash them every year even though they are disposable plates. It helps us remember Grandpa Dill and feel like he's part of our celebration.
Every year on Thanksgiving weekend Valley High School holds a scholarship fundraiser called the Turkey Tournament. The male alumni (or the spouses of female alumni) play in a three day basketball tournament. This year my brother James played, as did my brothers-in-law, Bucky and Stetson. They took fifth place. The Alumni girls play in a volleyball tournament, but more on that in my next post.
I am very thankful to have such an amazing family! I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to spend my life with! Love you all! And a Happy Thanksgiving to everyone!
