It's been a while since I posted anything so I'm going to try and catch up during this next week or so. Sorry, if you get bored of all the posts....but then again, if you actually come look at this blog you are probably interested in knowing what is going on in our lives. So the binge of blog posts to come will be my gift to you, my loyal reader(s)!
For the past several months Tyson has really enjoyed getting back into his weight lifting. Unfortunately, about a month ago, he injured himself while bench pressing 80 lb dumbbells. This is the part where you gasp and say "Wow, 80 lbs!" Most people don't know enough about weight lifting to know that that is really a lot, so I'm telling you to be appropriately impressed! He said it was feeling fine and then he brought the weights down just a little bit too low and felt his muscle rip. It turns out he completely tore the tendon that connects the pectoralis major (the main chest muscle) to the humorous bone in the arm. He said he didn't feel a lot of pain, but it did require surgery to re-attach the tendon to the bone. It also left an incredible bruise!
Tyson had surgery on August 2nd. My mom was able to come up and spend the day with the kids so I could be at the hospital with him. It sounds like they had a ton of fun. My kids are still talking about the yard sale they went to! Tyson is supposed to wear a sling for a month after the surgery. It's been 3 weeks now but he rarely wears the sling, he just tries to be careful not to use that arm. Luckily, it is his right arm and he is left handed. He could still play video games while wearing the sling so it hasn't been too awful of a recovery!
About a week after the surgery they took off the mass of bandages and just left strips of tape covering the incision. It is a fairly big incision....about 4 inches long, but it looks like it will heal nicely and not be all that noticeable.
We are just very glad it happened while he was off work for the summer. He's had enough time to recover so he can get back to work on Monday. We're also glad we had good insurance! In about 2 months he should be able to start lifting weights again and he has already promised he will be more careful from now on!
