Lexi has been one busy girl lately! Besides her normal activities of school, tumbling, activity days, and piano, she has also been doing volleyball and a science fair project. In her PEAK (gifted/talented) class they have been learning debate. Lexi's team of 3 won the competition for the 4th grade debates, so next week she will be representing the 4th grade in a debate demonstration in front of the school. She is excited for that!
The Science Fair was this past Wednesday. She worked so hard on her project and the whole family learned a lot from it. She chose to do her project on Optical Illusions. She showed 8 optical illusions to 10 people and recorded their responses to what they saw/didn't see. Then we made a presentation board where you could look at the optical illusion then lift up the flap so you could see more information about it and see the results from the people she studied.
We made quite a mess in dad's office but the finished product was really great!
She had to stay by her board while people walked around and looked at it and asked her questions. She was a little disappointed that she didn't win, but she did earn $5 in Swasey cash to be used at the class store. Apparently $5 Swasey cash is the equivalent of a 2 month salary in her class, so she still felt like it was worth all the work to earn the money. (Update: Lexi just told me she spent the entire $5 to buy Zac a present for his upcoming birthday. She is such a generous little girl!) I thought it was worth it because we got to spend a lot of quality time together working on this project, and I do mean A LOT of time! I think next year we'll pick something more simple! We actually already have an idea for next year, but I won't say a word because we don't want anyone to steal our awesome idea!
The whole family got to go and check out the Science fair projects. Tyson stayed with Lexi to help keep her poster board from blowing over every time someone opened the back door to the gym. The boys and I went around and checked out the other projects. There were some really cool ones. We liked the lemon powered battery, rubber eggs, homemade plastic, and sugar crystals ones the best. We now have lots of ideas for projects we want to try at home.
Lexi has also been doing Volleyball. The coaches are the college volleyball players and Lexi thinks that is really cool. This was the first practice where they've used the net, so they were practicing serving from up close.
They were teaching them about blocking. Lexi's technique was a little off in the beginning but got a lot better by the end of the practice!
See what I mean! Awesome technique! Look how high she is! Her hands are clear above the net! And she gets bonus points for keeping her eyes open!
Next we just have to work on keeping our eyes open when bumping the ball too. She is having so much fun learning to play volleyball!
We're proud of our little girl and all the things she is learning to do!
