Canyon Crusaders!

My parents were able to come up for a visit last week. My dad's back is hurting a lot lately, so it was a real sacrifice for him to travel that far. He wasn't able to go out with us on our adventures, but we had some good chats with him when we were home. We decided to take my mom to Goblin Valley (she's never been and she's lived in Utah her whole life!) We hiked Little Wild Horse Canyon which is a very cool slot canyon and you can go in for a LONG ways! In fact, we hiked over two miles in and never got to the end. We finally turned around because we wanted to go in to Goblin Valley and see the hoodoos too. The last time we went to Little Wild Horse we couldn't go anywhere near that far because there was water in the canyon and since it was February we decided not to wade through it. This time there was no water at all. It was a beautiful day for hiking. We came home exhausted and feeling pretty gosh darn gritty but it was a very nice day! According to my Fitbit we hiked 6 1/2 miles that day!

The next day we drove up to 9 Mile Canyon (which is actually more like 50 miles long!) to see the Indian petroglyphs. They are all over the place up there! You can even see them off to the side of the road while you're driving past. The best panel though is called The Great Hunt and is about 45 miles into the canyon. It's very well preserved. A few days later Tyson went back and took a night shot there and got a really amazing picture. It was even shared on ABC TV 4 tonight. They did about a 30 second blurb on it, mentioning Tyson's name (and even pronouncing it right!) and talked about how the picture was taken. It was pretty cool to have him get that kind of recognition!

We took a few pictures before my parents left on Saturday morning. We are still looking a little droopy and still in our PJs but don't let that fool you; we really did have a great time! Besides hiking we just enjoyed each others company, ate Big Don's pizza and I took my mom to show her my new classroom (it's not very impressive yet...but still!)
