Spring Band Concert

Last night Lexi and Zac had their Spring Band Concert at the Middle School. They were both a little nervous about it because it was Zac's first concert and Lexi had a solo part. They both looked pretty snazzy in their concert black! Zac didn't know what the word "snazzy" meant and at first he thought Lexi was insulting him when she called him that. After he knew it was a compliment he went around telling everyone else they were snazzy too. We need to get another picture of them soon with their instruments too. Normally they bring them home each day (Zac's Sax is huge and heavy and yet he never complains!) but they had left them at the school because of the concert being that night.

Zac just joined the band in January and has had to catch up to the rest of the class but has done a really great job. I've been so proud of him for all the practicing he has done and the squeaks are now fewer and farther between. He is playing the same Tenor Saxophone that his grandpa Bill played in middle school/highschool about 55 years ago and Tyson played it for a year or two as well. Grandma Debbie also played the Tenor Sax, so I guess you could say it's something of a family tradition on both sides of the family. His class sounded great. They've come so far just since September! I felt more invested in the concert this time because I have substituted in their band classes quite a few times in the last month and felt like I had a tiny part in their learning. They played Morning from the Peer Gynt Suite, Sukura, Sukura and BB Does Latin Rock.

Lexi's 8th grade band sounded really fantastic as well. We couldn't get very many pictures because the teacher had the trumpets move to a different position than usual so she was right behind the conductor. Lexi had a solo part on the song Bring Him Home from Les Miserables. She sounded great (though she says she messed up on the A! Little Perfectionist!) They even had her stand after the song and be recognized for doing the part. I was proud of her for having the courage to do it. She even had to audition, which will be good practice since she wants to audition for the High School Jazz Band. Her class also played Can You Feel The Love Tonight and SuperHeroesRUS (my favorite!) It's always fun to go watch them play and see how much they have progressed. We were glad that Bill and Susan were able to come up for the concert and for our family Pizza Party afterwards, and that Susan and Drake didn't get bitten by the spider that came down from the ceiling in the auditorium and practically landed in their laps!
