A Weekend in Loa

Last weekend we spent a few days down in Loa at Tyson's parents house. Tyson and Bill helped Drake and Garrett get their Pinewood Derby cars ready. We actually aren't sure when the derby will be, but it's coming up soon and we knew we wouldn't have many free weekends coming up to work on it. So we decided building them early was better than being stressed out later! They were pretty serious about it this year including watching videos on Youtube to pick up some pointers. We are hoping for two very fast cars and a Chappell sweep of the top two places! Zac is not actually still in cub scouts but he still wanted to be part of the male bonding so he used a scrap of wood and designed his own car body, which won't have any wheels, but he had fun doing it. When he wasn't sanding on his car he was shooting flies with grandpa's salt gun. Grandpa knows how to keep boys busy!

Garrett and Grandma played some ping pong. Garrett is getting pretty good, especially now that he doesn't have to stand on a stool! Drake and Zac learned how to play chess with grandpa and the chess set he built himself. Drake especially seems to like the challenge of playing chess. Lexi and I mostly sat around and read and Lexi worked on a story she is writing. Tyson enjoyed going out and stalking hawks, bluebirds, and eagles with his camera. He got some really incredible pictures (no surprise there!) but my favorite is the one of two bald eagles taking off at the same time. It was a fun, relaxing weekend for everyone!
