Valentine's Boxes

At our Elementary school it is a tradition to make a fancy, Pinterest worthy, Valentine's Box. The first year we did it I wasn't too excited about it, but it has gotten more fun over the years. Mostly because the boys are able to do a lot more of the work themselves. This year Drake really wanted to make a toilet. It was actually a really simple project. We just wrapped a cereal box in butcher paper, cut a seat and lid out of foam board and glued it onto an ice cream bucket. It was a little tricky to cut the foam board so the edges looked a little rough but we didn't worry about it. Drake made a handle out of a clothes pin wrapped in foil. That is my idea of a fast, yet creative, box! We added a partial roll of toilet paper to sit on top of the tank at the last minute. It makes it more realistic. Around here there is always a roll of TP on top of the toilet and rarely any on the dispenser. I'm trying to train them, but it's taking awhile for the lesson to sink in.

Garrett, being a major soccer fan, wanted to make a Lionel Messi jersey. We cut a shirt pattern for front and back out of foam board. Then spray painted it and added strips of red duct tape for the stripes. I found a clip art of a shield and Garrett drew the team (FCB) designs on it. Then we cut out the lettering on my Cricut and Garrett glued everything into place. The pictures don't really show it but the back says Messi and his number (10.) It is important to note that this is the 2016 jersey. Apparently it's all about the horizontal stripes. Vertical stripes are so 2014! They had a fun Valentine's party at school today and came home with their boxes loaded up with goodies!
