For some time now I've been meaning to do an individual blog post about each one of the kids, but I keep putting it off. Yesterday I finally spent some time taking pictures of Lexi showing things she likes, activities she's involved in, and some of her cute little quirks. So here is a snap shot of what 12 year old Lexi has been up to lately......
So let's just get this first bit over with right away...YES, she is taller than her mother and has been for quite awhile! I must point out that this was the intended result when I married such a tall man, I really did want my children to be taller than me, but that doesn't mean I love it when people rub it in! And she appears to still be growing. It will be interesting to see how tall she gets.
Her height has been a definite advantage when playing her favorite sport, Volleyball. She has been on a local volleyball team this Spring. She practices 3 days a week and one of those times it at 6:00 a.m. but she doesn't even complain about having to get up.
Lexi has also been getting better and better as a musician. She still plays the piano and has done 2 years playing the trumpet in her Middle School Band. I've noticed a huge improvement in her musical abilities since she started playing trumpet. Somehow it has helped her to also be able to sight read her piano music better and she doesn't get frustrated with new songs like she used to sometimes. In these pictures she is wearing her new Mont Harmon Band T-shirt. Please note that she ties the back of her t-shirt with a hair tie because she hates baggy t-shirts. I ask her all the time not to do it (it messes up the shirt when you wash it and forget to untie it) but she decided she'd keep tying up her t-shirts and do her own laundry so I don't get mad about it.
Lexi still loves to read. She will read anything she can get her hands on. Lately she has been interested in the Salem Witch trials and other historical fiction, but she'll also read her brothers' Big Nate books in a pinch. She is also still a straight A student and keeps up on all her homework without needing any encouragement from mom and dad.
Lexi never, ever, ever wears matching socks! But there is a method to her sock selection. They have to have at least one color that coordinates. If you look closely you'll see that the green, purple and pink is in both socks. Hence...they match! It does make it nice in that you don't have to mate socks and it doesn't matter if you lose a few.
Lexi got a phone for Christmas and always has it with her. She isn't on it all the time though. She just mostly uses it to call me or to text a couple of her friends. She does like to use it to listen to music. Her favorite musicians right now are Taylor Swift and Jordan Pruitt.
Lexi is excited about this Mom and Daughter Journal that we bought her for her Easter basket. We haven't actually started it yet, but it has lots of fun get to know you type activities for Moms and Daughters to connect better.
Lexi has an app on her Ipad that she especially loves called Pic Collage. She loves to make collages/memes, especially about her favorite show Once Upon a Time and about Taylor Swift.
Lexi makes chocolate chip cookies about once a week these days. She has really perfected her art! She's come a long way from awhile back when she cooked the cookies for 30 minutes per batch instead of 10! Now her cookies always come out soft and delicious. This batch she mixed chocolate, peanut butter and butterscotch chips in and they were amazing.
Sometimes on Friday after school Lexi and her friends walk from the Middle School to Chug-a-Lug to buy a drink or donuts. Her best friends these days are Mariana, Tori, Mikey, Landon, and Braxton. If she's not hanging out with her friends on Friday afternoon she likes to come home and do the "burrito." It's just where she gets all wrapped up and watches episodes of Once Upon a Time. She is so mad though because Netflix doesn't have the most recent season and it is driving her crazy!
And last, but not least, you can always tell where Lexi has been! She is getting better at keeping her room clean but still has a tendency to leave her things all over the rest of the house! That's okay though, it's just a reminder of the awesome daughter that we have! We sure love our Lexi. She is really amazing and hardly ever has any of the kind of drama you would expect from a pre-teen girl. She's definitely a keeper!
