After dealing with drafty, fogged, dirty (uncleanable because it was in between the panes), aluminum windows for the past five years we finally bit the bullet and got new windows. The new ones are triple pane, beige colored windows. They have a lifetime warranty even if we break them ourselves. We have already felt a huge difference in the temperature in our house. It used to be that the basement bedrooms were much cooler than the upstairs but now we have a more evenly distributed temperature level. I can't wait to see what the difference is in our next gas bill! And I think they make the house look much better both inside and out. These windows are very easy to clean because the panels either slide out or can be folded into the house so you can reach the outside panes. My before pictures don't really show the extent of the fogging (streaks between the panes of glass) of our old windows. But trust me, the new windows are a huge improvement!
Luckily it was a very nice day (for January!) when the installers came because it could have been a very chilly day for me with all the windows taken out and the front door left wide open all day! As it was it only ever got down to about 60 degrees inside the house. The installers were very fast and had all 19 windows replaced in just 6 hours.
And here's a couple of After shots. I'm really glad we went with the beige color because I think white ones would have looked really weird with the brown tones of our house. Our next project will be getting rid of the wood siding and either putting up new siding or stucco.
