PEAK Field Trip

Last week I was able to go with Lexi on a field trip.  She was accepted into the PEAK program at school.  It's the gifted/talented class.  They have been studying Shakespeare this term so they went on a field trip to the college to spend time with the Drama department.  The college Drama department is going to be doing a production of Romeo and Juliet starting this weekend.  We actually walked from the elementary school to the college and back again after.  It was 4 miles round trip.  Those kids were real troupers!  I know my legs were feeling tired after that long of a walk.  Lexi's walking buddy was her friend Madison Prince.

There were three workshops we rotated through during our time at the college.  The first one was a fencing class using swords the kids had made with duct tape the day before.
There was also a workshop for learning about Shakespearean language.  Lexi got to demonstrate how to read the lines.  She was kind of embarrassed to be reading romantic lines to our neighbor, Carter!  The kids also learned some excellent Shakespearean insults ("thou greasy lily-livered dog-fish" and "thou vacant rump-fed canker blossom!") and how to project their voices.

We also got a tour of the Romeo and Juliet set.  Lexi had to try climbing up the balcony like Romeo.  We learned some interesting things about set building and props.

Here is a picture of the whole PEAK group.  Mrs. King does a great job teaching these guys!
