Strawberries

 When we moved into our house one of our neighbors brought us a whole bunch of strawberry plants from her garden.  So we diligently planted them, watered them if we remembered, and weeded when they started looking a little over-run.  Yes, I'm that kind of gardener I guess!  Now finally 2 1/2 years later we have harvested our first humongous yield of strawberries. Okay, so maybe humongous is not quite the right word!  But it's a whole bowl full which is almost a bowlful more than we've ever gotten before!

 We decided to wash them up and divvy them out in mostly equal shares and enjoy our bounteous harvest.  Drake knows how to express his feelings about the heavenly taste of homegrown strawberries!  They might be smaller than those hormone-riddled-genetically-enhanced-grocery-store imitations, but they taste far superior!

Garrett and Alexis have both had strawberry allergies in the past.  Garrett would just get blisters around his mouth, but Lexi had a rash that completely covered her whole body (at 15 months old) and she had sores in her mouth.  So they've been banned from strawberries most of their lives.  Our pediatrician told us kids often grow out of strawberry allergies and to try them in a few years (sometime when we were near a hospital!)  And sure enough neither one of them have trouble with it anymore.  Thank goodness, because who would want to live their whole lives without strawberries!  That just seems cruel!

 It would appear that we're all pretty bad at fake eating but that's okay, it was a nice try!  We surely did enjoy though little red morsels of juicy deliciousness though!  I may even try to take better care of my strawberry patch and we can get a few bigger strawberries that take two whole bites to eat! 

Just a side note, that lovely beetle-ridden tree in the background is coming down tomorrow!  Yay!  Hopefully we can manage not to let it land on our fence, mailbox, house or any other object we'd like to keep!
