Thanksgiving & a Tree

Well, Thanksgiving is over. We spent hours in the kitchen, consumed copious amounts of food, swore not to step on the scale for at least a week, and managed to repel each and every one of our invited guests. Yes...that's right...we were supposed to host Tyson's family for Thanksgiving and not a single one of them came! Maybe it was because we insisted on baking a ham rather than a turkey, or that we hadn't made enough pies for everyone to have their own (like my mom, she doesn't even like pie but always makes at least a dozen!), or perhaps it was our uninvited guest....Mr. Flu-bug. He sure has a way of making people not want to be around you, even when you've made enough good food to feed half the population of Plymouth and the Indians too! So we had a nice, quiet family dinner with plenty of food for all and lots of left overs too. We are Thankful for a lot of things this year and will be Very Thankful when Mr. Flu-bug gets sick of our house and heads off to bother someone else!

Also, Thanksgiving night we put up our very first Christmas Tree. In almost 10 years of marriage we have never had a full-sized Christmas tree. We've never lived anywhere where we had the room to put up a tree or to store it for the rest of the year so we just never bothered with it. I'm not a huge fan of real Christmas trees because it's seems like kind of a waste. Also, who wants to have to clean up all the needles? The kids were very helpful putting on our ornaments. There are still lots of bare spots because we've never bothered to collect many ornaments either. By the way, those "shatterproof" glass ball ornaments will break if flung over the railing onto the hardwood floor below. Here are a few pictures of our first tree decorating event!

Happy Thanksgiving. It seems like a lot of families had Thanksgiving with just their immediate family members. Maybe that's how it should always be.

I love the Christmas tree! We need to put ours up...but we are sticking with a small one again this year. Holly would just tear a big one down, who wants the hassle?
