Tyson Got Tenured!

Last Friday, April 8th, was a pretty momentous day for us! After months and months of waiting for the various committees to review Tyson's tenure binder he finally got his letter of approval! This has been a long time coming...eight years in fact! It would have been sooner except for the fact that when Tyson was in his 3rd year at CEU they merged with USU to become USU-Eastern and that merger started his tenure time over from the beginning. In some ways it was a major setback, but it also helped him have more time to get his paperwork together and he had more semesters of teaching experience behind him by then. So what does tenure mean? Well, it is a promotion from Assistant Professor to Associate Professor which also comes with a pay raise. Plus, there is more job security. If you don't get tenure you have one year before the University expects you to find a job somewhere else. If you do get tenure it means they can't fire you just because they don't like you. The University would have to be in pretty bad financial shape or you would have to be involved in some kind of serious misconduct to lose your job. Tenure is also the major professional goal of most professors and just means Tyson is doing a great job in his profession. From here he can go through a similar process to become a Full Professor if he wants to, but that is not required like Tenure is. We are so incredibly proud of Tyson! He has worked so hard for this achievement. He is a fantastic professor and really loves his job. He has done so much to improve the Biology Department at USU-Eastern and it's nice to see him get some recognition for all he has done. We love you Ty!
