Garrett (and Drake too, but this post is mostly for Garrett) has been doing so amazing in Kindergarten. It was literally only about 2-3 weeks into the school year when he just started to read. Full on reading! I have no idea how he picked it up so fast. His teacher said it's rare, but some kids just really "get it." It's been amazing to watch him. He can even read really hard words without any help, like enough, questions, and through. Garrett has been flying through his sight word lists. By the end of Kindergarten all the kids are required to know 40 words. Garrett has just recently passed off his 725 words list! We told him we would go celebrate when he got to 500 words. He hit that mark about 10 days ago (yes! He has passed off 225 words in 10 days!) so we planned his party. He wanted to go use our Seven Peaks Pass of all Passes at a place we've never been to before. Planet Play in Draper was just recently added to the list of vendors who accept the passes. So last weekend we went to check it out.
First we decided to stop in Spanish Fork at Wendy's to grab a small bite to eat so the kids wouldn't get hungry while we were playing. Garrett LOVES Wendy's and is always asking if we can go there.
Then we got to Planet Play and hit the racetrack. Zac was absolutely loving the Go-Karts. This was the first time he's been tall enough to drive one himself and he just wanted to go over and over and over again! We met our friends the McQuiveys at Planet Play. That is their son Myles in the UPS car. His dad drives for UPS so of course he wanted that car.
We all love to do laser tag so we did a round of that. Drake and Garrett and Sara McQuivey made sure to guard our base really well.
Then Tyson took Zac and Lexi back to the Go-Karts and the rest of us played air hockey and miniature bowling.
Uncle Shay met us at Planet Play and got to watch the kids do a few activities and he took a turn in the Go-Karts. When we left Lexi and Zac got to ride with Uncle Shay in his new Porsche. It goes a lot faster than the Go-Karts at Planet Play!
Then we met up with Grandma Susan, Grandma Murphy and uncle Shaun for a family dinner at Golden Corral. It started to snow quite hard so we decided we'd better get headed for home. And that's when the fun times ended! We drove over the mountain in a horrible, scary snowstorm and to top it all off Drake decided to puke when we were about 15 miles away from home. But, luckily we did make it home safe and sound and got everyone cleaned up (and the car) and tucked in bed. What an adventurous day!
Garrett also received a gift card to Coldstone ice cream from his teacher for passing off his 500 words. He keeps insisting that it is his very first "credit card!"
Now we need to start planning Drake's 500 words party. He has passed off 400 already so it shouldn't be too long!
